    Learn how to communicate legal and health information through the informed consent process in ways that both engage patients and better protect healthcare organizations. Take away tips to assess and integrate health literacy into your informed consent processes, from clinical procedures to treatment plans.

    2. Articulate the basic legal requirements for informed consent in clinical settings.

    4. Incorporate plain-language principles to create consent documents that are easy to understand.
    Christopher R. Trudeau, JD, is an associate professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ Center for Health Literacy. He holds a dual appointment with the Faculty of Law at the University of Arkansas Little Rock, Bowen School of Law. Professor Trudeau is an internationally recognized expert on health literacy, plain language, and the law. He is a member of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s Roundtable on Health Literacy.
